Morning Light

Morning Light, Oil on Canvas, 16 x 20 inches, Available

Living in Hualien we get a lot of rain.  For some reason mornings seem to be sunny and by the afternoon the clouds build up off the mountains which usually brings the rain.  I don't know much about weather but I think it probably has to do with the moisture from the ocean and pressure changes through the day.  I painted this after a nice morning motorcycle ride. The sunrise colors along with the light and fog on the mountains really attracted me to this scene.  Which made me stop and do a quick study along with snapping some photos. Taiwan's countryside really reminds me of Hawaii.

New Year, New work.

Southwest Clouds 12x16 inches, Oil on Canvas.  Sold

It has been a significantly long time since I have updated my blog.  2012 was a very chaotic year and I am hoping 2013 goes a lot smoother.  This painting was the last painting I completed in 2012.  It was also the first painting I sold in 2013.  It was sold to a collector here in Taiwan.  The collector was in my studio on the 1st of the year and he just had to have this painting, but he needed to get approval from his wife.  So we worked out a deal.  I said,"take it home, show your wife, live with it for a little while."  His wife approved of it the minute he took it home.  I took it as a good omen for the New Year.
